This expedition explored the deep coastal waters off the coasts of Turkey and Cyprus collecting geological, biological, archaeological, and chemical data and exploring depths up to 2,000 meters. Explored areas included the Black Sea, Southeastern Aegean Sea, Anaximander Mountains, and Eratosthenes Seamount.
I assisted with interpreting ROV video data from five Roman shipwrecks surveyed by the team near the Datça Peninsula, Turkey identifying and dating artifacts and hull remains, providing tentative interpretations such as whether the site was a shipwreck, jettisoned cargo, a trawler dumpsite, etc., and finding comparative examples from contemporary terrestrial sites.
